Spill Containment Services

Flow Isolation

During any pollution event there will be a need to stop a flow from leaving a site. It could be from a fire or a spill on site

Environmental Monitoring

Environmental compliance means that more and more industries need to utilise real time monitoring of site.

Firewater Containment

Fire prevention plans for environmental permits should consider industrial spill control, specifically the ability to contain the runoff from fire water

Penstock Servicing

Spill containment relies on fully functioning valves that deploy correctly when an incident occurs. Valves fitted into a below ground drainage system require regular servicing

Case Studies

Penstock containment testing in the aerospace industry.
We often get calls to carry out servicing of site generic pollution containment valves. One of the major issues we have to deal with are penstock valves that have either not be set to close fully or sites that have noticed that when they close a penstock valve they dont stop the flow. A global aerospace engineering company based in Wolverhampton asked our engineers to carry out an annual service of the pollution containment penstock sited at the final outfall into a balancing pond. The valve operated open / close.  read more…
Emergency response time improvements in the automotive industry.
Following a pollution event a UK car plant operated its pollution containment penstock valve. The full spill response took over 20 minutes to isolate the valve. On full closure of the penstock valve, it was apparent that the flow off site did not stop. Sandfield Penstock Solutions were asked to look at the operation of the system and deliver a scheme to improve the response time and achieve full isolation. read more …..
Evidence based assessment & spill mapping after spill event in fuel handling site.
Our client had a fire as a result of vandalism at their premises in Birmingham. The site separates waste oil for reuse by industry. Polluted fire water runoff from the site entered the surface water drainage during the fire fighting process and was reported by the environment agency as a pollution event. The immediate impact after the fire showed no significant impact to the site oil storage or containment. However the subsequent investigation made by the Environment Agency, HSE and sites own insurance company highlighted inadequate controls in place to prevent a future pollution event. read more ….
ToggleBlok replaces exploding bladder system
As our team originally invented envirovalve we know more about stopper containment systems than most and many of our clients ask us for advice on equipment they have. A recent call for help came in from one of our drainage partners to assist in a pollution release. The site had activated a heavy duty stopper system and the stopper had failed causing a cast manhole cover to be launched several meters into the air, eventually landing on a smoker’s shelter. read more ….

Environmental assessment and spill mapping leads to huge cost saving for manufacturer.
A large manufacturing company in the West Midlands supplying Jaguar Land Rover found a pollution issue into a local water course. The local EA officer advised that the sites surface water runoff should pass through an oil separator. Sandfield Penstock solutions were asked to look at the design for the separators as the site was initially quoted a project cost in excess of £300K. read more ….
