Water Pollution Prevention Consultancy
Sandfield Penstock Solutions are uniquely positioned to provide effective Water Pollution Prevention advice and support given our role in shaping the latest guidance and our 25 years experience of implementing effective spill containment processes and systems.
With the rapid deployment of legislation, an increase in the frequency and value of fines, advances in technology and public opinion turning against polluters, industry is understandably concerned and moving to mitigate the risk of water pollution and needs sound, evidence-based advice to make the right investments.
In any rapidly evolving industry, there is a likelihood that things can become confused.
Where do you go for sound water pollution prevention advice and support?
The first port of call is often the spill response sector except, of course, these businesses make their money when spills occur and have little experience in proactive spill containment or water pollution prevention.
It may seem counter-intuitive that spending money on consultancy could save you money, but the right advice could be invaluable.
How could water pollution prevention consultancy save you money?
Here is a recent example.
A food manufacturer approached us because they were receiving a lot of attention from the Environment Agency as oil was leaving their premises and entering a watercourse. The site’s response was to address the issue as quickly as possible and sourced and implemented spill booms to stem the flow and contain the contaminated material. However, after several months of collecting and disposing of the contaminated waste, the costs became prohibitively high and the source of the problem had still not been identified.
At this point, Penstock Solutions were approached by the client to investigate. Drawing on our experience of pollution flow we completed a drainage connectivity study which very quickly identified the contamination source. On closer inspection, it quickly transpired that the oil flow didn’t originate on their property, and essentially, was not their responsibility.
The customer was about to invest £25,000 to complete a CCTV Drainage Survey, which was unlikely to have identified the source of the issue. Not only were we able to save the customer the £25,000 on the unnecessary survey, we also saved the thousands that were being spent on disposing of the contaminated materials and provided the quickest response to what could have quickly become a major issue.
More commonly the consultancy we offer is saving customers money by providing a liaison service between the client and the Environment Agency. If the Environment Agency were to identify your business as a cause for concern they have the authority to make all sorts of demands including issuing improvement notices, delaying environmental permits and, in the most extreme cases, business closure.
The Environment Agency’s sole interest is in preventing water pollution with little concern for your budget, reputation or disruption to your business. For this reason, the EA often make recommendations that will undoubtedly address the issue but are likely to involve expensive and disruptive techniques, technology and extensive civil works.
We are busy saving our customers tens of thousands of pounds by recommending and implementing solutions that satisfy the Environment Agency at a fraction of the cost and with a fraction of the disruption. The way the legislation and guidance’s are structured the bare minimum requirement is that you are investing in preventing water pollution and can evidence that you are making progress towards compliance. Having Penstock Solutions in your corner speaking their language could save you a huge amount of time, energy and money.
At Penstock Solutions our mission is to prevent water pollution and deliver value to our clients. We leverage our 25 years of spill containment experience to identify, propose and implement the most cost and time effective solutions to prevent water pollution and free you up to get on with running your business.
